Wildlife in high altitudes is something you can only experience in a few places, and Colorado's Mt. Evans is one of them.

Boasting the highest paved road in North America, Mt. Evans rises 14,265 feet above the valleys and peaks that surround it just an hour west of Denver. The road starts in a thick pine forest, moves through aspen stands, past alpine lakes and into the tundra. It is here in the tundra that you can find an amazing variety of wildlife: mountain goats, bighorn sheep, American pika, weasels, yellow-bellied marmots, mule deer, elk, coyotes, red fox and a variety of birds, including the smallest grouse, the white-tailed ptarmigan. I even saw a badger up here once.

Bighorn_sheep_Mt_Evans_2015_2Bighorn_sheep_Mt_Evans_2015_2A herd of bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) runs over an alpine ridge covered in fall color near Summit Lake on Mount Evans, Colorado The goal of this workshop is to capture stunning landscapes that include wildlife in those images (referred to as environmental portraits), wildlife portraits and wildlife interactions. We will also look for great sunrise and sunset shots framed with lakes, wildflowers and other alpine subjects.

This photo workshop will include landscape photography and some walking. The high elevation of the region should be considered for those with any health concerns as we will be traveling to elevations above 10,000 feet. The workshop is ideal for beginner to advanced photographers.

AUGUST 13

- We will head up to Mt Evans for the afternoon and a sunset shoot, which is about 8:30 p.m.

If coming from out of town, please book your flights in and out of Denver International Airport with arrival no later than July 12 and departure July 16. I can arrange to pick you up and drop you off at a hotel in Denver before and after the workshop. Please consider arriving a day or two before the workshop to allow your body to adjust to the altitude. Altitude sickness can be a serious illness that affects people not adapted to the altitude.
