It is hard to believe but December is here, and that means Christmas shopping for either your loved ones or yourself to take advantage of all the great deals happening this year.

Ororo heated vest for women 

Cyber Monday deal: $83.99 from $149.99

I just bought this for my most recent trip to Alaska. And it worked great!! I went with the vest option for price and in case the heated sleeves were just too much under my heavy parka. I was outside for the better part of ten days and loved this vest. The battery lasted about five hours on a lower setting, which was just enough to keep your core warm while not overheating me. 

Heated socks for women

Cyber Monday deal: $63.99 from $79.99

These are not exactly the same pair I have been using (Amazon is sold out of that pair now) but these are a comparable brand and style. Again, I used heated socks on my recent trip to Alaska where I knew I would be standing outside for several hours at a time in below-freezing temperatures. These worked like a charm. On low power, I could keep my feet warm but not toasty and have a battery last about six hours. The battery is a little clunky on the side of your leg, especially if you are wearing tall boots, but the warm feet made all the difference.

512GB Lexar CRXpress Type B Memory Card

Cyber Monday deal: $119.95 from $168.99

I bought this card in the summer thinking I would need it for an upcoming trip. It saved me on having to carry two wallets of cards. In the past, I have been cautious about using a card with this much memory. If it fails, it will fail substantially with all of that data on there. The size, however, is ideal for video content and if you are using a high frame rate camera, like 20fps on my Nikon Z8. The cards fill up quickly with that kind of data and this heavy hitting card does the trick. 

A Thousand Trails Home by Seth Kantner 

$23.57 from $28.95

I absolutely loved this book! I picked it up on a whim in the Anchorage airport on my way back from Nome earlier this summer. And although I don't have a ton of time to sit down and read books, opting more for audiobooks for all of my driving, I finally finished this a few weeks ago. I highly recommend this first-hand account about growing up on the tundra of what is now Kobuk National Park in Alaska. Seth Kantner shares his views of watching Alaska go from a primarily subsistence land of Native Alaskans to the conversion of the vastness into managed federal land, all the while intertwining his own story with that of the caribou that migrate in the area. It is a fascinating look at the Last Frontier has changed – and not all for the better. Sorry, this one isn't on sale for Cyber Monday but still makes a great gift for you or under the tree for someone else.

Jackery Portable Power Station

Cyber Monday deal: $169.00 from $259.00

We use this in our camper van, and it works like a charm to charge everything we need – from my laptop to the Apple Watch and everything in between. With our reliance on powered devices these days, and with the need to work no matter where I travel on car trips, this is a lifesaver when the batteries start running low. I can keep a mug of tea warm, recharge camera batteries and recharge those batteries for the things that keep me warm, like the socks and vest above. 

What An Owl Knows by Jennifer Ackerman

$12.91 from $30.00 

This is another title I read – well, listened to – earlier this year that I truly enjoyed. I even had the opportunity to meet Jennifer at a birding festival too, where she spoke about the research that went into this book. It was inspiring for my own projects. But that aside, this is a fascinating read for anyone interested in birds. She looks at owls species around the world and the fascinating research that has been done to learn more about their behaviors.
